Cool New Mommy Links

Ok, maybe not new, but new to me.   Thanks to my sister-in-law for this one:

And from there I got to this one:

Reminded me of my posts on losing weight and using the Wii Fit from last year:

and

I’d actually managed to lose about 20 pounds between the Wii Fit and riding my stationary bike while watching my favorite TV shows.   And then of course I got pregnant.   But at least I’m still 15 pounds less (at five months pregnant) then I was when I got pregnant with my first kiddo.

I wonder if it’s safe to use the Wii Fit during pregnancy?   Though who wants to have a “trainer” pointing out to you that youve’ gained weight while you’re pregnant?   I’ll stick to Grey’s and my bike for now.

Until next time,

On Losing Weight

I found an interesting post this week: Are Doctors Really “Lecturing” Patients About Weight?

According to this post and a study by the Mayo Clinic, only 20% of patients who are obese are diagnosed as such by their physicians.    Unfortunately, this comes as no surprise to me.   The first doctor to point out to me that I was technically considered to be obese was my husband, unfortunately.    I clearly knew that I was overweight, but had no idea I was technically obese.  I could still buy all of my clothes at the Gap and Ann Taylor Loft and I’ve never had to buy plus sized clothes.   So, I was pretty surprised to learn I was obese.  Check out a BMI calculator to determine if you might be overweight tor obese, though of course the calculator won’t account for those who are particularly athletic and muscular.

I started seeing a new family practice doctor for the first time back in December.   He was the first doctor I’ve seen who actually pointed out to me that I needed to try to lose weight, and recommended I shoot for 5 pounds per month.    For some reason hearing him come out and say that I needed to lose some weight (I don’t think he ever actually said overweight or obese), and giving me a goal of 5 pounds per month, motivated me to try.   Maybe because I didn’t want to have to answer to him when I saw him again.     When I went back to see him last week, he told me that I had lost 12 pounds.   So, nowhere near the 30 pounds I should have lost based on 5 pounds per month, but, he was happy with it nonetheless, as am I.   I actually lost 10 of those pounds in December and January and have managed to keep it off this long, so I count that as an accomplishment.    Plus, I am very happy to say that I am no longer considered to be obese.  Only 35 pounds to go!

Now that my calves are recovering from the 33 minutes of Wii Fit Hula Hoop and Running that I did on Saturday, maybe I can get in another Wii workout tomorrow.

Until next time,

Wii Fit Kicked Mii Bootie

Tonight was the first real adventure into the world of Wii Fit for me. 40 minutes later of hula hooping and strength training and I’m ready for bed. I’ve done enough Wii Fit to open up the 6 minute hula hoop session, and have discovered that I am significantly better at hula hooping to the left than to the right. I can definitely see how it could be possible to lose weight with this thing. It keeps a calendar for you of your weight, plus how many minutes each day you actively use the Wii Fit (not just how many minutes you have the unit on, but how many minutes you spend in activities).

And as I had read online recently but didn’t quite believe, the Wii Fit really does bloat up your Mii according to your weight. Nice. Maybe it’ll put my Mii in a bikini once I get down to a certain acceptable weight too!

Until next time,

Wii Fit

So, last Tuesday, thanks to www.wiialerts.com, and using the My WiiAlerts! page, I was able to order 3 Wii Fits online, one for us, one for my father-in-law and one for a friend through the Toys R Us website.    I was extremely surprised though when all 3 showed up on my doorstep on Thursday when I returned home from work.    And of course, I hit the motherload when I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off, trying to herd the toddler, along with my briefcase and everything else, into the house, so that I could walk him across the driveway to the neighbor’s house and make it down to Broadview Heights for a wedding rehearsal by 5:30.    So, I dragged the boxes of Wii Fits into the house and left them for the hubby to check out.    He finally got it hooked up last night and we tried it out.

It’s a lot of fun, so far I’m liking the hula hoop and soccer games.     I did not like, however, that since the Mii we set up was for the hubby, who is tall and very skinny and happens to weigh somewhat less than I do, when I stepped on to try out a game, the console told me, “we notice that your weight has changed, would you like to continue?”  I also love having the console tell me that I am overweight and unbalanced and asking me if I often trip while walking.    Clearly, I wanted the Wii Fit for a reason (note the weighing more than the hubby part)…and after taking this verbal abuse from the console, it had better tell me how hot I look once I lose 30 pounds using this thing!    🙂

Until next time,

How to Get a Wii Fit

These two sites will send you email alerts whenever a Wii Fit is available to purchase online on a number of websites including BestBuy.com, CircuitCity.com, ToysRUs.com, Target.com, Walmart.com, Samsclub.com and Amazon.com.

http://www.wiialerts.com/ and http://www.zoolert.com/

I can now say that it works.    I received the alerts yesterday morning and was able to order a Wii Fit online.   Price was $89.99, plus tax and shipping, so still cheaper than buying one on Ebay right now.  It certainly beats trying to get to a toy store right when it opens on the day they are supposed to get a shipment in…that method didn’t work so well for me.

Until next time,
