Cleveland Orchestra Free Concert on Public Square

I’ve been to this a few times and love it, though I’d personally find it difficult to take the baby and kiddo at this point in their lives.    Pack some snacks, a couple of chairs and a blanket, because it is an amazing experience, which would explain why each year Public Square is packed on all four quadrants for the show!   Which means, if you want to sit near the front, get there around 5:30 or 6 and plan to be there until the end.

Date: Thursday, July 1st

Written and directed by Dan Kamin
The Cleveland Orchestra
Jayce Ogren, conductor

Saturday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m.
Saturday, May 16 at 1:30 p.m.

A classical concert goes horribly wrong when an annoying mime battles conductor, Jayce Ogren for control of The Cleveland Orchestra. By the time it’s over, the mime conducts and the conductor turns into a mime!

Dan’s entertaining antics and skilled choreography transform a traditional concert into an exciting theatrical event that’s fun for the entire family. You’ll discover how great musical classics by Beethoven, Stravinsky, Strauss, more can turn into comedy!

The Cleveland Orchestra and Classical Kids Live! celebrate the life and music of Antonio Vivaldi with “Vivaldi’s Ring of Mystery.”  Classical Kids Live! actors present the story of Katarina, an orphan who studies music under the tutelage of Antonio Vivaldi, while the orchestra performs excerpts from some of Vivaldi’s most popular works, including The Four Seasons and the Violin Concerto in A minor

Pre-concert activities: Come early for fun, free interactive activities beginning one hour prior to each concert.  Try playing a string, woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument in the Instrument Discovery zone; enjoy a bell-choir performance in the Grand Foyer; marvel at a mysterious magic performance; and color pictures representing “the four seasons” and of Vivaldi himself in our Artists’ Corner.

Purchase a 2-concert Family Concert Series subscription—starting at $18—for this and the remaining Family Concert of the 2008-09 season: The Classical Clown with Dan Kamin (May 16, 2009).
