Thousands to Congregate for Regional Inauguration Day Ceremony

Cleveland, Ohio – Nearly 10,000 people are expected to rally at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center for a regional Presidential Inauguration Ceremony, hosted by the Governor’s Initiative for Increasing the Graduation Rate and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. In addition to the 2,000 CMSD students that will be in attendance, students from various districts throughout the state, business and faith-based leaders, and community members from all over are expected to turn out to witness this historic event.

The ceremony will include remarks from keynote speaker, Dr. Eugene Sanders, CEO of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, Mayor of Cleveland Frank Jackson, State Superintendent Deborah Delisle, State Senator Nina Turner and others.

Festivities leading up to the main event -the swearing in of the 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama- include the Shaw Marching Band, Karamu performers, Brush High School Show Band, a montage of video vignettes, a tribute to U.S. Soldiers and much more. Attendees will watch live inauguration day coverage on three jumbo-screens beginning at 11:25a.m.

This is a ticketed event and open to the public. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster or at the Wolstein Center Box Office beginning Wednesday, January 14th for $5.00. Tickets will also be available for purchase the day of the event while supplies last. Tickets and parking are limited.

Host supporters include Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, Senator Sherrod Brown, State Superintendent of Education Deborah Delisle, County Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones, County Commissioner Tim Hagan, County Commissioner Jimmy DiMora, Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher, Speaker of the House Armond Budish, Ohio Black Legislative Caucus Representative Sandra Williams, United Pastors in Mission, The Diversity Center of NE Ohio, NAACP, and Cleveland Catholic Charities.
