The City of Cleveland’s Recreation Centers to Host ‘Big City Boo’ on Halloween
CLEVELAND – On Friday, October 31, 2008, many residents will celebrate Halloween by going from house-to-house wearing scary costumes and yelling ‘trick or treat’. As an alternative; parents, guardians and caregivers can bring their children 12 and under to Big City Boo Halloween events that will be happening throughout the city at various recreation centers between the hours of 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. These events are free and open to the public.    Contact your local recreation center for details or click here.   Phone numbers and locations for the City of Cleveland’s recreation centers can be found here.

Those who choose to collect candy on Halloween should do so during the designated time of 6pm-8pm and only approach well-lit homes.

Listed below are recommendations for a safe Halloween:

  • Adults should accompany young children and older kids should travel in groups
  • Children should wear light colored clothing short enough to prevent tripping.
  • Add reflective tape to increase visibility.
  • Make sure children can see through their masks or use make-up.
  • Avoid hard plastic or wooden props such as daggers or swords.
  • Use foam or other soft and flexible materials.
  • Carry and use a flashlight when it gets dark.
  • Visit homes you know and stay within your own neighborhood.
  • Be alert for vehicle traffic.
  • Only give and accept wrapped or packaged candy.
  • Parents examine all candy before allowing children to eat it and report anything suspicious
    to police.
  • Keep costumed children away from pets who may become frightened.
